2023 Undergraduate International Program in Economics

 

Program Overview

Undergraduate International Program in Economics (UIPE) aims to nurture future leaders who will make an impact on the world. They will be empowered with state-of-the-art knowledge about the world, charismatic leadership and global competitiveness in a diverse and multi-cultural environment for four years.

UIPE provides students with a curriculum based on Liberal Arts education and a gradually increasing depth in understanding Economics. All students in this program are encouraged to study abroad for at least one semester during the 4-year study. For students planning to go to industry or international organizations after graduation, internships abroad during summer or winter vacations during the senior academic year are encouraged; for the students planning further studies, rigorous education in Maths and economic theory at the advanced level will be offered.

UIPE requires the completion of no less than 150 credits, including no less than 38 credits of General Education Curriculum, 80 credits of Major Curriculum in Economics and 32 credits of elective courses. The General Education curriculum is designed with a wide breadth of language, communication, politics, history, social science, literature, philosophy, science, arts, ecology and technology, etc. The Economics Major Curriculum is taught in English and is composed of economic courses with an increasing depth as the study carries on. Students must pay close attention to the prerequisites for each course.

Application Qualification:

1. High school graduate or above, qualified for university entrance, physically and mentally healthy foreigners.

2. According to the regulations released by Ministry of Education, China, if an applicant has acquired foreign citizenship at birth and one or both of the applicant’s parents hold Chinese citizenship (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan), the applicant must have held a valid foreign passport or certificate of nationality before April 30, 2019. In addition, the applicant must have lived outside Chinese mainland/Hong Kong/Macao/Taiwan for at least two years during the period between April 30, 2019 and April 30, 2023 (subject to the entry and exit record, if the applicant has stayed outside Chinese mainland/Hong Kong/Macao/Taiwan for nine months or longer period during one year, it is equivalent to one year).

Emigrants from Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan applying as international students must have held a valid foreign passport or certificate of nationality before April 30, 2019. In addition, the applicant must have lived outside Chinese mainland/Hong Kong/Macao/Taiwan for at least two years during the period between April 30, 2019 and April 30, 2023 (subject to the entry and exit record, if the applicant has stayed outside Chinese mainland/Hong Kong/Macao/Taiwan for nine months or longer period during one year, it is equivalent to one year).

 

Application Period:

From December 12, 2022 to March 27, 2023.

 

Application Fee: 800 RMB (online payment, non-refundable)

The application is considered invalid without paying the application fee.

 

Application Procedure:

Step 1. Online Application

Please finish the online application procedure (choose Personal ApplicationUndergraduateUIPE), fill in required blanks and upload the scanned copies of the following original documents.

1.   Photocopy of valid passport identification page.

Only ordinary passport is accepted and the expiry date should be later than September 30, 2023.

2. Applicants currently residing in China must provide a copy of the page containing a valid visa or residence permit.  

3. Diploma of highest degree conferred or proof of impending graduation (for applicants in their final year of study) (Original or notarized copy, with notarized Chinese or English translation, if original not in Chinese or English).

4. Transcripts of highest degree conferred (original or notarized copy, with notarized Chinese or English translation, if original not in Chinese or English).

5. Original or notarized copy of following English language test result (only for applicants whose native language is not English), students from high school with major courses taught in English may be waivered of the English language test.

6. Two letters of recommendation in English from whom can attest to the quality of the applicant’s academic performance and scholastic potential. The letters must include recommenders’ phone number and email address. If the letters cannot be uploaded by the applicant, the applicant can send the link in the system to the recommender for filling in the letter.

7. Applicants who are under 18 years old by September 1, 2023 must submit a Guarantee Statement, which can be downloaded from the website.

(2) The guarantor should be an adult, living in Chinese mainland with a stable source of income.

8. Applicants in category Application Qualification 2

(1) Applicants who were born in a foreign country and have acquired foreign citizenship at birth, should provide documents to prove that one or both of the applicant’s parents have acquired permanent residence of the country before the applicant’s birth. Applicants who have emigrated from Chinese mainland/Hong Kong/Macao/Taiwan and have acquired foreign citizenship should provide documentation of cancellation/rescission of his/her Chinese citizenship.

(2) If the applicant has ever visited or lived in Chinese mainland/Hong Kong/Macao/Taiwan, the applicant should submit entry and exit records and relevant visa or residence permit from April 30, 2019 (inclusive) upon application.

9. Applicants may submit additional supporting documents which may demonstrate their comprehensive abilities along with the required documents, for example, award certificates, published essays, admission notices from other universities, etc.

Applicants without qualifications listed above please submit high school or university transcripts for assessment.

Whether the applicant has the citizenship of the People's Republic of China while having foreign citizenship shall be subject to the conclusion made by Exit-Entry Administration Bureau. If the applicant is concluded to have Chinese citizenship after application, admission and enrollment, the applicant will be disqualified from application, admission, enrollment or study.

Interview:

1. Date: April 22, 2023 (Saturday) or April 23, 2023 (Sunday)

The university will shortlist candidates for the interview based on the application materials and will inform the qualified applicants of the exact time for interview.

2. Interview Qualification

From April 15, 2023, applicants can check interview qualification in online application system.

★Due to possible unexpected situation, the interview plan may be adjusted. Please pay attention to the website: iso.fudan.edu.cn, and email notice from International Students Office.

 

Admission:

Qualified students will be selected according to the results based on the interview and application documents.

Pre-admission results will be released in online application system in May 2023, students need to confirm their pre-admission qualification during specified period. Otherwise the pre-admission qualification will be withdrawn. The final admission results will be released on the website of International Students Office. Applicants may also check the status in the system.

The formal admission notice will be sent in July 2023.

★The change of major is not allowed during the study period.

★If fraud or favoritism is found, upon verification, severe consequences apply. If found during the application process, eligibility for admission will be disqualified. If found prior to matriculation, matriculation eligibility will be disqualified. If found after matriculation, admission and student status will be withdrawn.

 

Time of Enrollment: Late August or early September 2023 (for specific time, please refer to the Admission Notice)

The admitted students must go through the admission and registration procedures in strict accordance with the requirements of Fudan University. The original visa and diploma of highest degree conferred will be verified upon enrollment. Those who do not submit corresponding certificates will be disqualified from admission.

Students who have registered at Fudan University may not pursue degrees in other higher institutions at the same time (except institutions that have joint-degree programs with Fudan University). If any of the above circumstances is found, the student will be expelled from Fudan University.

 

Tuition: 68,000 RMB/Year (exact amount of tuition fee will be announced upon enrollment)

Instructions on Filling in and Uploading Documents in Online Application System

 

Instructions on filling in the application system

1.   For applicants of UIPE, MBBS or GBF program, there is only one available major, no adjustment option is available.

2.   Please select “Place of Interview” according to your own preference. Further announcement will be released in case there is change of plan.

3. For applicants of UIPE, MBBS or GBF program, “Chinese Name” is not mandatory. Please select “No Chinese Name” if not having Chinese name.

4. Applicants in final year of high school or university should select “Student” in the field “Occupation/Profession”.

5. Applicants who have just graduated from high school (or college) and are applying for university, should fill in the name of the high school (or college) in the field “School/Organization Currently Studying/Working In”.

6. Please correctly and completely fill in information in the module of My Contact Information, including Contact Person/Receiver, Phone Number, Address and Postal Code, in order for the university to reach the applicant, as well as for applicants to receive admission package successfully. The address in Chinese mainland should be written in Chinese, while the address outside Chinese mainland should be written in English.

7.   Please fill in your complete “Educational Background” from primary school till present in chronological order by clicking “add” button.

8.    “Family Members” is mandatory. Please correctly and completely fill in information of your parents and other family members by clicking “add” button. One of the family members should be set as emergency contact person.

9.   “Contact Person in China” refers to the person in China that can be reachable during the applicants’ study period in China. If there is no such person, please select “No Contact Person in China”.

10. “Personal Statement” must be less than 5000 English characters (including punctuation marks and space) for UIPE, MBBS and GBF program.

11. Applicants may save the filled and uploaded information at any time, and all information will remain. If applicants want to continue, please modify in “My application” section.

12.    The university will send admission notice and visa application form to admitted students. Students outside Chinese mainland can apply for visa via Chinese Embassy or Consulate General.

 

Instructions on uploading documents in the application system

1. All uploaded documents should be original or notarized copy in PDF or JPG format. If the documents with the same topic contain several pages, please merge all pages in one file in chronological order.

2. Statement of Personal Financial Capacity or Financial Support is mandatory. The financial guarantor must be a natural person with full civil capacity, aged above 18 with stable source of income. The financial guarantor should truly and correctly fill in Statement of Financial Support for International Students, and provide the following documents: (1) Scanned copy of the guarantor’s own passport (non-Chinese citizen) or ID (Chinese citizen); (2) The guarantor’s own Bank Deposit Certificate (The minimum amount should be 100,000 RMB or equivalent foreign currency; The Certificate should be issued within one month prior to application date; The Certificate should be original or notarized copy, with notarized Chinese or English translation, if original is not in Chinese or English).

3.   Two recommendation letters are required, which should be signed by the recommenders and should be original. Electronic signature is not accepted. If the letters cannot be uploaded by the applicant, the applicant can select “Send a link to the recommender for filling in the recommendation letter”, and fill in the recommender’s name and Email address. The system will send Email to the recommender with relevant information. The recommender shall submit the letter within 15 days and no later than the application deadline.

4.   The ID Photo must be a recent bareheaded and full-faced color photo with white or blue background. Black and white photo, artistic photo, and selfie are not accepted.

5. The expiry date of the passport should be after September 30, 2023.

6.   In “Visa/Residence Permit” field, please upload currently valid visa or residence permit, or visa, residence permit, exit&entry records relevant to your stay in Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan region. Depending on the situation, the required content and number of documents are also different for every applicant. Be sure to follow the requirements.

7. Applicants in final year of high school should upload Impending Graduation Certificate, applicants who have graduated from high school should upload High School Diploma (Graduation Certificate). The Impending Graduation Certificate should be issued by the school and contain the date of enrollment and expected date of graduation of the applicant. The Certificate of Student Status is accepted if it contains the required information.

8. Please upload scanned copy of original transcript of whole high school period till the time of application. Applicants who are currently studying in the university are required to upload their transcripts of university at the same time.

9. Transcripts of international exams (TOEFLIELTSDuolingoPTESATAPACTIBA-levelATARNCEA) are valid within 2 years after the date of exam, or the transcripts will not be accepted.
